Putting the words Whole Wheat in the title does NOT make these decadent dinner rolls healthy by any stretch of the imagination. But sometimes we all want a bite of comfort food, and paired with a healthy salad these lovely buns make a wonderful side that doesn’t even need butter to enjoy because they have PLENTY inside.

Whole Wheat Butter Buns

Servings: 18

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Place all of your dry ingredients in your stand mixer with the dough hook or a large bowl to combine and kneed by hand. Warm your milk and water until it just begins to feel hot, but not so much that you will kill your yeast. (110ºF to 120ºF) Whisk your eggs into your warm mixture, add your honey and melted butter. Then pour into your bowl and kneed for 5 minutes. The dough should come together and remain slightly tacky to the touch.
  2. Roll out your dough on an oiled cutting board and divide into 18 pieces. Roll each into a ball. Melt another 3 TBL of butter and roll each ball in the butter and place in cast iron pan(s) leaving room for each bun to rise. We sprinkled half of them with everything bagel seasoning! Was lovely!!
  3. Let sit in warm oven (proof) until doubled in size (1 hour or so) and then bake at 350° for about 25-30 minutes.
