Not every dish is picture perfect, and we have no shame or guilt about our noble efforts that are a wide miss of Nailed It!  These slice and bake valentine cookies were fun to make and even tho they didn’t turn out as intended they certainly were tasty.

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar together for two to three minutes until light and fluffy. Add egg yolk and vanilla and continue to beat for another couple of minutes. Add flour and salt in two batches and mix just until well combined. Separate a third of the dough into a smaller bowl and add food coloring. Mix until color is well blended.
  2. Divide the red dough into three pieces and roll each into a long rope. Take a small piece of uncolored dough and roll to the same size rope. Position two of the red ropes on either side of the uncolored rope. Then place the third red top on top. Push and mold together so you have a pointed end that will be the tip of the heart.
  3. Roll out the rest of your dough on a large piece of parchment paper. Place the four rope strand in the middle of the rolled dough and gently roll the dough over and continue as if making sushi. Wrap in parchment and plastic cling and chill in fridge for 3+ hours. When the dough is firm, cut into 1/4" slices and place on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 350° for 15 minutes or until lightly brown. Let cool for a few minutes so that cookie will harden a bit and be easier to transfer to serving plate.
