The steak part of a traditional Philly Steak sub, plays only supporting role to the grilled onions, peppers and melted cheese. So making a seitan substitute is easy to do and sub night at our house never tasted so flavorFUL.
4 tablespoons Softened Plant Butter or Butter or Olive oil
2 tablespoons Chives (optional)
2 cups Water or Stock
Cooking Stock
2 cups Boiling water
4 Raspberry Zinger Herbal Tea (Herbal Peach tea also works well)
.25 cups Soy sauce
Toppings
1 Onion Sliced
1 cup Cooking broth after seitan is done
2 cups Slice Mushrooms
1 Sliced Onion
1 Sliced Organic Pepper
Sliced cheese variety
Hoagie Rolls
10 Sandwich Rolls
Instructions
Make Seitan
Place all of the ingredients for seitan in your food processor and blend for a minutes.
You can shape the seitan into an oval roast for slicing or pull it apart into small pieces.
Prepare Cooking Broth
Place your teabags and soy sauce into a heat proof bowl and add boiling water. Let step five minutes.
Add broth to seitan in the instant pot and cook for 20 minutes.
Prepare Au Jus
Saute mushroom stems and onion until tender and brown. Add one cup of cooking broth (after the seitan is done) to the mushrooms to deglaze the pan and puree everything in blender.
Add sliced seitan and reheat.
Toppings
Saute Mushroom, Onions and Bell Pepper for your steak sandwiches.
You can also offer pepperonccini, pickled jalapeno or even pickles. We had artichoke hearts and several kinds of sliced cheese.
