Chop Cheese Hoagies

In Jersey we would have called these Chop Cheese Heros, but Chopped Cheese Hoagies are a Harlem-born bodega classic—griddled ground beef chopped up with melted cheese, tucked into a hoagie roll with lettuce, tomato, and a swipe of mayo or ketchup. It’s fast, flavorful, and pure NYC comfort food. The best part? It’s just as easy to make vegetarian. Swap the beef for your favorite plant-based ground, use vegan cheese if needed, and keep the same bold flavor and messy joy. Everyone at the table gets what they love—no extra work required.
