Perfect Porridge

Ingredients:
- 2 cup Coarsely ground wheat berries
- 8 cup Water
- 1 tsp Salt
- 0 You can add almost anything! Savory or sweet ♥
Directions:
1. Combine the coarsely ground wheat berries, water and salt in a large, heavy-bottomed pot.
2. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally to prevent the grains from sticking to the bottom.
3. Reduce heat to low, cover loosely and simmer for approximately 30–45 minutes, stirring frequently, until the wheat is tender and the mixture has thickened into a creamy porridge. Cooking time will depend on how coarsely the wheat berries were ground.
4. If the porridge becomes too thick before the wheat is tender, add a little additional hot water and continue cooking.
5. Once the grains are soft and the porridge reaches your desired consistency, remove from heat and allow to rest for 5 minutes. It will continue to thicken as it cools.
6. Serve warm with your favorite sweet or savory toppings!
For a sweet breakfast, try cinnamon, fresh fruit, honey, maple syrup, nuts or a splash of milk. For a savory version, add sautéed mushrooms, roasted vegetables, herbs, cheese or a fried egg.
Perfect porridge is really just a blank canvas. Make a big batch, refrigerate the leftovers and reinvent your breakfast all week long!
